This is the story of a wedding cake maker. An ordinary person who does an extraordinary thing. She travels the world making wedding cakes with a whisk, a map in her pocket, and a lifetime of baking knowledge and experience.
Seeking inspiration from hedgerows to farmers' markets and her clients’ personal stories, she sets out on a relentless quest to track down the finest ingredients and botanicals in order to make a very special cake. Everything must be just right. Nothing is too much effort. Finally, in the early hours of the wedding day, while the couple sleep, she takes the ingredients she has gathered, her trusty whisk, and with a magic only she knows, bakes their wedding cake. And when it goes into the oven, she sits and ponders, drinking tea under the stars. And when it comes out of the oven, she makes all the fillings and buttercreams to the sound of the dawn chorus, and gathers flowers to decorate the cake while the dew is still on the ground. Each cake she creates tells a story. It truly is her labour of love.
